The Rev. Dr. Gary V. Simpson, Senior Pastor
In Hebrews 6:1-12, the writer challenges us to journey beyond the surface level to travel deeper into the real issues in the life of faith.  So much of our faith talk is light, airy – not substantive at all.

Today, we live in a culture where people desire the short, quick, bulleted Power Point presentation for everything. The truth is that these presentations may represent neat packaging (sometimes too neat to the point of being slick!); and, they do not challenge us to do anything beyond rote memorization.
Your life in Christ adds up to so much more than what can be captured on a simple check off or punch list. Seven steps to this and four points to that….deep life and deep faith requires deeper, more courageous spirituality than you will ever get from seven steps of anything.
What is Christianity at its core?  What does God expect of those of us who bear the name?  In this world of bargaining and bartering, are there some non-negotiable aspects of the life of faith and discipleship?

It does not take much for the average person to see that there are so many “brands” of ‘Christianity.” Many people follow self-help Christianity – but faith is more than vehicle for self-improvement.

God saves, redeems and liberates us.

Our response?

o To use our gifts to make the world a better place.
o To measure our discipleship not on how many worship conferences    and retreats we have attended, but rather on the quality of our daily    efforts to love mercy, do justice and walk humbly with God (Micah 6.8).
o To fasten our shoulders to the wheel that turns to relieve the poor; to    seek restoration for widows, orphans and the vulnerable; to set the    captives free.
o To live our lives so that we embody God’s call to shed abroad the    unconditional love of God for all of creation.

I invite you to join us at Concord Church to hear more about “Christian Essentials.” In this day of falsehoods, fakes and phonies, you really want to learn for yourself what it means to be authentically Christian. Come, dig deep into the faith with us and let’s live fuller lives together!
